Detailing for MCAS was founded by Michael-Christopher Suman, a high school student whose mother has lived with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), a rare and often misunderstood condition.
Watching his mother struggle with unpredictable symptoms and the lack of awareness in the medical community, Michael was determined to take action. What began as a small effort — washing cars in his neighborhood to raise awareness and funds — quickly grew into something bigger. Each detail became more than just a service; it was a way to educate others about MCAS while creating a tangible impact.
In 2023, Michael channeled this passion into formally creating Detailing for MCAS. What started with one location in Chicago soon spread internationally, with new branches opening across the Netherlands in Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Maastricht. Volunteers joined from both sides of the ocean, united by a mission to support families affected by MCAS and to fund advocacy and research.
From the very beginning, Detailing for MCAS has been youth-founded and community-powered. Volunteers don’t just wash cars — they carry forward a message of visibility and hope for those living with MCAS, a condition that too often goes unseen.
Today, Detailing for MCAS is an international nonprofit that has brought together dozens of volunteers, raised thousands of dollars, and reached communities across two continents. But at its heart, it remains what it started as: one young person’s determination to turn hardship into impact, and to drive awareness for families everywhere touched by MCAS.
As Michael reflects on the journey:
“Detailing for MCAS started in my driveway, but it’s grown into something I never imagined. Every car detailed, every fundraiser hosted, and every story shared brings us closer to a world where MCAS is understood, researched, and supported. This work has changed my life — and I’m so grateful to every volunteer, supporter, and family who continues to make it possible.”
Detailing for MCAS’s founder and volunteers now dedicate their time to raising awareness, supporting families, and driving action for MCAS across the globe.
